Pascale Garlinge

Pascale Garlinge

Pascale is a visual artist who lives in Eltham, Victoria, but originally she is from Kent in south-east England. She grew up in this geographical and cultural halfway point with her French mother and Scottish father, both of whom gave her many reasons to explore all the things that shape and change us, and make us who we are.

From an early age Pascale has loved looking at things, especially people's faces, and she tries to capture likeness and the clues to identity through figurative drawing and paint. She studied a French & Fine Art Combined Hons degree at the University of Exeter in the U.K., with a third year placement at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Rennes, France. After graduation she completed a further year of study in Interior Design in London and has worked in this industry for the last fifteen years. Five years ago the rite of passage into motherhood awakened and re-energised a dormant sense of creativity and a passion for portraiture. Her daughters themselves have become part of the process as both inspiration and motivation, with Florence as her main muse and disciple!

Pascale’s mind's eye is always drawn to the small but beautiful details of ordinary life and more recently she has used photography to capture these things like a notebook, which is the only way she knows how in the time-poor existence created by looking after small children. She likes to return to the same things – portraiture, shadows, reflections, colour, texture and nature - which over time have become rituals and obsessions that get her through the humdrum of the day to day. Pascale hopes to travel more and see new landscapes, which is always good for the soul and new ways of seeing.

Pascale has been a member of Thou Art Mum since 2013 and she hopes to grow and learn more from this welcoming and generous network! She has displayed and sold work at the following group exhibitions:

  • “Exodus”, University of Exeter School of Arts, Exeter
  • “Up, Up and Away”, Montsalvat Art Centre, Eltham
  • “Desaturate”, The Vines Café, Diamond Creek
  • “A Taste of Thou Art Mum, Bridges restaurant, Hurstbridge
